SC seeks police reports in abduction, murder cases
Staff Report
ISLAMABAD: Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry on Tuesday ordered the Punjab provincial police officer (PPO) to submit a report in 14 days on an abduction case.
The CJ took suo motu notice on a plea by a resident of Sialkot who had asked the court to ensure the recovery of her abducted son. She pleaded that her case was pending in the Supreme Court while her son was still being held captive, adding police were pressing her to accept that she was satisfied with the investigation.
Separately, the CJ directed the Sindh PPO to submit a report by November 6 on suo motu action taken on a report published in a newspaper on June 18. The report stated that a female doctor in Jacobabad had been injured when her former husband attacked her. It said the lady doctor’s brother had been killed in the attack, and the attacker had forcibly taken away their two children. The Sindh PPO said a case had been registered against the attacker, some of whom had been arrested and the children recovered.
